NB Photographic Studios began doing restorations in 2001 when Natt was at college. One day a local pub had had a precious photo very badly damaged. A full pint of beer had been thrown at the photo smashing both glass and frame in the process. As a friend of the landlord, Nathanael was given the task of scanning the photo and meticulously removing the glass & beer stains before having the photo professionally reprinted.
Over the years, he's had many strange editing requests but one which stands out is when he was given 2 wedding photos to combine for an unusual reason. The head of the groom's mother was turned the opposite way on one of the images. On the other image, the rest of the family was facing the wrong way. Carefully taking the head from one photo to the other he made both images one for the delighted mother.
By taking a head from another image, we were able to repair this wedding photo.
A final example of much more detailed work was for Nathanael's own family. As a young child, his son had torn a precious passport photo of a deceased relative - the only photo in existence. Torn in 4 pieces, Natt reassembled the photo over the course of several days. Rebuilding the torn areas of skin from un-torn areas. With no other photos to use for visual comparison and having never met the relative, it was an incredibly difficult task. On completion, he was somewhat nervous that the picture wouldn't resemble the relative - however, it did and apparently looked as good as the original.
